Day 9

Because it will rain all day today we decided to do the sights which are the ‘least’ impressive and farthest from the old historic centre. Hopefully the weather tomorrow will be a lot better so we can see the impressive structures within the historic city centre.

After breakfast we walked to the Ulugh Beg Observatory which is located about 3.5 kilometres outside of the centre. It's a pretty sad sight outside the tourist area..

The Ulugh Beg Observatory was built in the 1420s by the Timurid astronomer Ulugh Beg, it is considered by scholars to have been one of the finest observatories in the Islamic world. What remains is a pretty impressive part of the sextant.

Time to head back to the historic centre of the city and grab some hot soup to warm our bellies!

After lunch we decided to just wander outside the tourist centre and observe the city. We are a bit tired from all the traveling and walking so today is a bit of an 'off'-day.

Time to get something to eat and call it a day. Time to put our feet up and just relax for a bit. Tomorrow it's crunch time on the historic centre of Samarkand.
