Most of the day we spent driving through the Mojave National Preserve which has beautiful Joshua trees, sand dunes and lots of straight long long long roads. Google Maps guided us to the Kelso dunes: “Follow the road for 274 kilometres”..
As we encountered a closed road we had to back-track through Mojave which added three hours to our already long trip.
We finally, after a drive of 684 km, arrived at our motel near Route 66 just as the sun was setting.
Tomorrow we will explore a stretch of Route 66 aka “the Mother Road”.
